Arts & Crafts
The Nagas are perhaps best known for their exquisite hand-woven shawls and cane and bamboo work. The spears and daos of the warriors, decorated with goat’s hair, headgears made of finely woven bamboo and orchid stems, and ornaments of boar’s teeth and hornbill feathers, are equally artistic.
Naga women are expert spinners, weavers and dyers. The hallmark of Naga product is the three-paneled shawls, stitched together and embellished with embroidery and decoration. Traditional weaving techniques and new fashions and designs have come together in a creative fusion.
Naga jewelry is also very attractive and colourful. Colourful beads of all shapes and sizes threaded as necklaces and bracelets are worn by the Naga womenfolk especially during dances and other festive occasion. Antique jewelry as well as regular jewelry pieces is available in the market for purchase.
